|
Benjamín Centeno, who is on pace for 200 strikeouts this season, had a strong outing for the Maunabo Artilleros against the Vega Alta Martilleros at Recinto Atlético del Sureste. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 2-1 win. Avelino Saldívar, who finished 5th in the LB in saves with 25 last year, was the winner in relief. His record is now 3-7. The losing pitcher was Veloso Gamarra. Maunabo is now 64-69.
The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the ninth when Rob Johns hit a run-scoring double off 31-year old right-handed pitcher Ananías Jiménez to win the game for Maunabo. The home crowd went wild.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Maunabo skipper Ruairí Graves. "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
