Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Barceloneta Marineros and Carolina Tumbabrazos.
Carolina shortstop Héctor Peres had a good game, even if his team did not. The Tumbabrazos dropped a 5-3 decision to Barceloneta at Coliseo Llenza Fellú. Peres went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. The winning pitcher was Adolfo Ureña. He's now 13-6. He went 8.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits for the Marineros. Balbino Gallegos collected his 20th save.
Jesús María Cordón dealt the Tumbabrazos a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Barceloneta leading 3-2, Cordón, who finished 3rd in the LH in triples with 31 in 1908, hit a 1-2 slider for a 2-run single.
Cordón told a Barceloneta Today reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The Marineros now own a record of 89-44.
