Cleveland-Baltimore Deal: Alder for McGraw
Saturday, November 29th , 1913
The Cleveland Spiders and Baltimore Orioles have put the finishing touches on a deal that was weeks in the making. Cleveland will part with 28-year old RHP John Alder and 24-year old RHP Boardwalk Brown, while the Orioles have dealt 36-year old SS John McGraw.
"This one took a while to figure out," said Cleveland general manager Ray Perdue. "We must have gone back to the drawing board five or six times over the past few weeks. I'm glad we finally got the deal done. I think it is a good one for both clubs."
Since he broke in, Alder has picked up 62 wins, 42 losses and 2 saves. He has posted a 2.78 ERA and recorded 552 strikeouts in 1053 innings.
In his career, McGraw has hit for a .289 average and totaled 1472 hits, 11 home runs and 494 RBIs.
