Great Day for Guzmán -- 5 Hits Saturday, August 30th , 1913 The Ciego de Avila Monjes Grises stopped the Manzanillo Martenos by a score of 5-4 at Campo de los Martenos, with the lion's share of the credit going to second baseman Huáscar Guzmán. The 27-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Guzmán said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Guzmán did just that in his 7 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Martenos. "Not much that I can say," offered Manzanillo manager Bruce Lowry. "He just hammered the heck out of us." Huáscar Guzmán grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th, flied out in the 12th and singled in the 15th.
