Holland's Martínez Reaches 1000 Hits Thursday, July 31st , 1913 What a day for Gabriel Martínez. The 29-year-old Holland first baseman reached the 1000-hit mark today and the Tulips whipped the Sheboygan Brats 5-2. Martínez told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 1000, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball." He went 3 for 4 in the game to reach the milestone.
