Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Superior Whalebacks and Sault St. Marie Rapids.

Superior third baseman Ludovico Castello made his presence felt in the 12-8 Whalebacks triumph over the Sault St. Marie Rapids. Castello went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs. Superior reliever Guillermo García picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Con Lucid absorbed the loss. Getting the save was Toribio Gamboa, his 1st.

The most important at-bat for Superior came in the top of the ninth inning, when second baseman Uranio Díaz stroked a 1-2 splitter to center for a run-scoring single, putting Superior up, 9-8.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Díaz. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

The 4th-place Rapids now sit at 16-27.
