Red-Hot Smelters Win 8th Straight
The Marquette Smelters took on the Grand Marais Voyageurs at Ballpark by the Marsh.

The Grand Marais Voyageurs were defeated, 4-2, by the Marquette Smelters at Ballpark by the Marsh, even though Marcos Gerena pitched well for Grand Marais. Marquette pitcher Cedro Troche got the win, upping his record to 5-0. Marcos Gerena got the loss.

Marquette relied on the hitting of Veloso Rivera to pick up the win. The designated hitter ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the eighth inning to put the Smelters on top, 3-2. For the game, Rivera had 1 triple and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

"That's what makes it fun -- everybody's jacked up because of the way we've been winning," said Marquette manager Cédric Oger.

Marquette has now won 8 straight.
