Voyageurs Spill Rapids, 9-5
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Grand Marais and Sault St. Marie from playing their scheduled game.
The Grand Marais Voyageurs beat the Sault St. Marie Rapids, 9-5, at Rapids Park, But Better. Grand Marais left fielder Mark Smith had an outstanding performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Luis Zacarías got the win, improving to 13-7. He worked 8.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 13 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 4. Nerón Solano earned the save for Grand Marais, his 4th.
In the first inning, Smith had a 3-run home run for Grand Marais. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Voyageurs on top, 3-0.
"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Smith told a Grand Marais Chronicle reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
The losing streak for Sault St. Marie has now reached 6 games.
