Smelters Walk Off with 5-4 Win
The Marquette Smelters stopped the Sault St. Marie Rapids, 5-4, in 12 innings at Pig Iron Stadium. The Smelters got a big game from Benedicto Nava, who went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Cedro Troche earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record is now 8-0. Marquette is now 74-45, Sault St. Marie 43-76.

The Smelters got a clutch hit from shortstop Nicandro Rodríguez. In the bottom of the 12th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Smelters.

"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said Rodríguez. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
