Golondrinas Topple Tortugas, 5-3
|
The San German Golondrinas topped the Culebra Tortugas, 5-3, in Liga Hostos action at El Recóndito. The standout performance belonged to San German pitcher and Fajardo, Puerto Rico, native Efraín Ayala. In 8.1 innings, Ayala surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. Valeriano Partida got the save, the 4th for him this season.
San German used a clutch at-bat from Duffy Lewis to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Golondrinas ahead, 5-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Efraín did a good job of managing their lineup," said San German manager Melquíades Milla.
The Golondrinas now have a record of 36-22 with the win over Culebra.
