The Cayey Cornupetas earned a close win over the Las Piedras Menestrales, thanks in part to Cenón Montiel. The Cayey left-hander played a key role in the 3-2 victory. Sarpedón Rodríguez got credit for the save for Cayey. It was his 22nd of the year. Cayey is now 73-61, Las Piedras 78-58.
Cayey took advantage of an error in the top of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 0-0, when Ismael Martínez hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Cornupetas in front, 1-0.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Montiel.
