Voyageurs Stay Hot With 3-2 Win
|
The winning streak continued for Grand Marais.
The Grand Marais Voyageurs weathered a fine game by Sault St. Marie first baseman Francisco Rodríguez to upend the Rapids, 3-2, at Ballpark by the Marsh. Rodríguez went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. Benicio Reyes, who is tied for 8th in the WGLA in quality starts with 10, was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 8 hits, with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Ananías Pérez collected his 1st save.
The Voyageurs got a big at-bat from designated hitter Isidro Gómez. For the game, Gómez went 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 25th double of the season gave Grand Marais a 3-1 lead.
"Young guys to old guys," said Gómez, "we're all going out there and doing what it takes to win."
The second-place Voyageurs now have a win-loss record of 46-34.
